Welcome to the Dutch Cheese Museum

The Dutch Cheese Museum, founded in 1983, is housed in the monumental Weigh house, in the centre of Alkmaar; a city famous for its cheese. The museum presents remarkable objects which richly illustrate the history of cheese making, farming culture and dairy trade. The collection includes historical artefacts and utensils, photographic images and film. Paintings are also exhibited, including twenty-four 16th century portraits of women from Holland. In 2013 the museum celebrates its 30th anniversary. Also there is a full redesign scheduled for 2014 that will able the museum to present the history of Dutch cheese in a more elaborate way. The museum is accessible for wheelchairs.

In 2013 we will welcome our 1.000.000th visitor. Perhaps it’s you?
